Rava/Semolina Khichdi |
Rava ya, Semolina Khichdi is one of the dinner items at our home. When my husband started his weight-loss program he wanted every day new varieties and that too tasty.
Ufff!! This was a difficult task! But somehow I managed searching recipes and asking friends and neighbours around. I found out this simply healthy and delicious recipe.
Rava Khichdi is different from Upma which was there in my earlier blog post.
In Rava Khichdi we are using pulses urad dal and chana dal. These pulses are rich in proteins. Also to add some nutrients to this dish I am adding vegetables like onion, tomato, capsicum, peas and carrot.
Mixed Vegetable Semolina Khichdi

INGREDIENTS:
- 2 tbsp Urad Dal( Split and husked black gram dal) Yellow in colour
- 2 tbsp Chana Dal( Split chickpeas)
- 2 cup Semolina
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 2 medium finely chopped Onions
- 2 small finely chopped Tomatoes
- 2 small finely chopped Capsicums
- 1 small carrot finely chopped
- 1 cup Green peas
- 1 tsp grated Ginger
- 5-6 Curry leaves
- 2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 4 cups water
- 2 green chillies( not hot)
- Salt as per taste
METHOD:
- Take a non-stick Pan dry roast the semolina on low-medium flame. It should not turn brown.
- Now after the semolina/Rava is done transfer the roasted Semolina in a bowl.
- Add olive oil in a pan, add both the chana and urad dals and roast till it turns golden brown.
- Now add finely chopped onions, capsicums, carrots and green peas. Saute till all the vegetables are cooked. You can even cook the capsicum, peas and carrot separately and add to the above mixture.
- After the vegetables are sauteed and cooked add tomatoes, green chillies and grated ginger, saute till tomatoes get soft.
- Add Turmeric powder and saute for 2 mins.
- Add 4 cups of water.
- Add Salt as per taste and mix well. Once the water starts boiling add roasted semolina/rava and keep stirring, make sure no lumps are formed.
- Cover the pan and cook for 2-3 Mins. Rava Khichdi is ready to serve
SERVE HOT!!
