Green Gram Lentil Curry or popularly known as Hare Moong ki Daal in India. This is one of the best vegetarian recipe as it is high in proteins and low in carbs.

Moong Dal curry can be a good filling option for those who are on the weight-loss program.
You can eat this curry simply in breakfast or can be combined with flat-breads/rice to make a complete meal.

Green Gram lentil is quite easy to digest. If there is anyone who does not like the taste of just plain boiled lentil, then you should try this unique recipe of Moong dal curry.

Taste and flavor of this Moong Dal curry is very extraordinary as it is sauted with onion, tomato, and garlic and tempered with grama masala and red chilly powder, which gives strong and unique taste to this lentil.

Preparation Time: 2 hrs for lentil and 10 mins for other ingredients
Cooking Time: 20 Mins


INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 cup Soaked Green Gram lentil/Moong dal(Soak for 2 hrs)
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 2 finely chopped Onion
  • 1 finely chopped Tomato
  • 1 Tsp Ginger paste
  • 1 Tsp Garlic paste as per the taste
  • 1 Tbsp Red Chilly powder
  • 1/4 Tbsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 Tsp Cumin seeds
  • 4-5 Curry leaves
  • 1 Tsp Asafoetida
  • 1/4 Tsp Garam Masala powder( hard spices)
  • Chopped Coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • 3-4 Tbsp Water for consistency
METHOD:
  1. Take a vessel wash the lentil thoroughly with water. Then add pure water to lentil and boil the Green gram lentil in the pressure cooker for 4 whistles. Let it cool down at room temperature.( Do not throw away the boiled water of lentil, use in the cooking as it has nutrient value).
  2. Take a pan, add oil and heat it for 1 min, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, add chopped onion and saute it till onion turns light brown.
  3. Add Ginger-Garlic Paste and saute it for 2 mins, then add tomato and saute it till it becomes little soft.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, mix well, add boiled green gram lentil, add garam masala, salt as per taste and mix well.
  5. Add water, cover the lid and let it simmer for 5-7 Mins.  After that remove from the flame and serve.
SERVE HOT!!

Can be served with: Rice/Flat-breads or can eat curry simply as breakfast.
